GASE Guidelines

Laboratory automation has scaled across academia and industry, but formal education hasn't kept pace. Automation training remains fragmented, largely confined to in-house company programs with no shared standards for educators to build from.

Co-leading development of the first Global Automated Science Education Guidelines, funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and hosted by SLAS, publicly launching January 2027.

AI-BIOME / CUNY

CUNY needed a workforce strategy to match the scale of a new $18.1M NSF-funded AI-powered laboratory — one that could train researchers, students, and industry partners to actually use it.

Developed the workforce and training infrastructure for AI-BIOME, one of 20 inaugural NSF testbed projects selected nationally — building modular certifications, internships, and outreach pathways from high school through industry.

Opentrons Labworks

Opentrons builds automated liquid handlers used in labs around the world — but the next generation of lab scientists had never touched one.

Within six months of launching Opentrons for Education, the program reached over 1,000 students. It now teaches more than 4,000 students across 11 countries every year.

SLAS

SLAS needed an in-person bootcamp that could turn liquid handling theory into hands-on competency.

Co-developed and co-taught the course three times and counting, each time refining the curriculum based on how participants actually engaged with the robots.

Defining the standards. Training the workforce.

Kennedy McDaniel Bae founded Glassfloor in 2024. Trained as a biologist, she built her career at the intersection of biology, hardware, and software, always drawn to technology with the potential to lower the barriers to scientific innovation and impact. The problem became clear early. Automation can only deliver on that potential when the people operating it actually know how to use it, and most don't. Too few training pathways exist, too few educators have hands-on experience with the systems, and the gap between where automation technology is and where the workforce is keeps widening.

Glassfloor is the response to that gap.

Before founding Glassfloor, Kennedy designed and launched Opentrons for Education at Opentrons Labworks. Since then, Glassfloor's work has included developing the workforce and training strategy for CUNY's AI-BIOME program (an $18.1M NSF-funded initiative building AI-powered lab automation infrastructure), co-developing and co-teaching the SLAS Liquid Handling Bootcamp, and leading development of the first Global Automated Science Education Guidelines, funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and hosted by SLAS. Across these engagements, Glassfloor has reached more than 5,500 students, 38+ educator partners, and 20+ organizations worldwide.
